Thaumatophyllum xanadu is a perennial forb belonging to the arum family Araceae and the genus Thaumatophyllum, formerly classified under the Meconostigma subgenus of Philodendron. This plant is native to Brazil, but is widely cultivated as a landscape plant in tropical, subtropical and warm temperate climates. Thaumatophyllum xanadu eventually forms dense clumps up to 1.5 metres (5 ft) tall by 2 metres (7 ft) wide. It has glossy green, deeply dissected, lobed leaves up to 40 cm (16 in) long by 30 cm (12 in) wide. Its flowers have dark red spathes. It may occasionally produce aerial roots. Thaumatophyllum xanadu is cultivated as a landscape plant in tropical, subtropical and warm temperate countries including warmer parts of the United States, such as Florida, Hawaii and California, South Africa, Australia and northern New Zealand. It is grown as a houseplant in cooler regions.

Plant Care

Water

Philodendron Xanadu is tropical and can be watered thoroughly using the ‘soak and dry method. You can generously water your plant in the growing season and then let the topsoil dry out before the next watering. It’s a wise idea to finger test the soil before watering.

Sunlight

Bright indoor light or indirect sun. 6 hours to 8 hours

Ambient

Maintain temperatures between 18°C - 24°C. Avoid draughts as these can create undesirable temperature fluctuations. Consider giving your plant an occasional misting twice every week to maintain the optimum humidity level.

Nutrients

Apply liquid fertilizer once in 15 days when the plant is actively growing. For best results use Folikraft ready to use Indoor Plant Food.
