🌿 Sedum Burrito – Donkey Tail
Plant Bio
The #Donkey Tail (or Sedum burrito) is a trailing succulent with an unmistakable look—its cascading stems are densely packed with plump, blue-green leaves that resemble little jelly beans. A favorite for hanging baskets and shelves, this eye-catching plant brings a laid-back, whimsical charm to any space, especially when it starts to spill dramatically over the sides of its container. Native to southern Mexico and Honduras, the Donkey Tail thrives on neglect and plenty of sunshine, making it a low-maintenance favorite for both seasoned plant lovers and beginners alike.
This succulent prefers #bright, indirect light, though it can also tolerate some gentle direct sun. Harsh afternoon rays may scorch its fleshy leaves, so filtered light is best. Like most succulents, it thrives in well-draining, sandy soil and appreciates being left alone between waterings. Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again—overwatering is the quickest way to lose those chubby little leaves.
Because the leaves are delicate and fall off easily when handled, it’s best to place the Donkey Tail somewhere it can hang freely and be admired from a distance. Its trailing stems can grow quite long over time, and with the right care, it may even reward you with tiny, star-shaped pink or red blooms.
🌱 #Plant Care
Water
Water sparingly. Allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. In warmer months, water once every 2–3 weeks; even less in winter. Yellow, mushy leaves are a sign of overwatering. Handle gently when watering—its leaves are super delicate and fall off easily.
Sunlight
Loves bright, indirect light or morning sun. Can tolerate some direct sun, especially outdoors, but avoid intense midday rays that can scorch its leaves. Aim for 6–8 hours of light per day for healthiest growth.
#Ambient
Thrives in warm, dry conditions. Ideal temperature range is 18°C–24°C. Keep away from cold drafts or sudden temperature drops. No misting needed—Donkey Tail enjoys low humidity, just like its desert roots.
#Nutrients
Feed with a balanced, diluted #succulent fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). No need to fertilize in winter when the plant goes dormant. For best results, use a gentle cactus or succulent-specific formula.
